Anglesey Attractions
We are constantly coming across people who live within a couple of hours of the Island who have never visited and have no real idea as to what it offers. We have web links to the local Tourist Board site, which has a wealth of information.
Our website covers golfing, walking and birdwatching so please refer to these for specific details.
For the general visitor and those with families, the biggest attraction is the extent and variety of beaches. Close to the hotel on the Western coast are popular beaches at Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn and Rhosneigr. Going down to the Southern end of the island are the magnificent beaches of Aberffraw and Newborough and the spectacular Llanddwyn Island.
Heading east along the Southern coast along the Menai Straits, there is Wales’s largest aquarium at Anglesey Sea Zoo at Brynsciencyn – www.angleseyseazoo.co.uk
Plas Newydd at LlanfairPG is the traditional home of the Marquis of Anglesey, situated on the Straits overlooking Snowdonia with painting exhibitions, military museum, splendid gardens, coffee shops and adventure play areas. www.nationaltrust.org.uk
Continuing east on the Southern coast is the James Pringle Outlet shop at the famous station with the very long name at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch with a host of shopping opportunities under one roof.
If exotic butterflies and birds are to your taste, there is Pili Palas Nature World at Menai Bridge with nature trails and adventure playgrounds – www.pilipalas.co.uk
On the Eastern coast Beaumaris is well worth a visit to see the famous castle and to take a boat trip down the Straits to Puffin Island or a fishing expedition. Catching crabs from the pier is also popular and there are plenty of shops to browse around.
Heading up the Eastern coast are the popular family holiday areas of Red Wharf Bay, St Davids and Benllech Bay with majestic sandy beaches to enjoy. The village of Moelfre is worth a visit to see the lifeboat station, the pebbly beach and the lovely white cottages.
The Northern part of the island is more rugged but has good beaches at Cemaes Bay and Church Bay.
In the Holyhead area close to the hotel, South Stack lighthouse is a famous landmark well worth visiting.
If you like fishing there is the inland Llyn Alaw reservoir as well as the sea fishing trips from the port of Amlwch in the north and Beaumaris in the south.
Overall there are plenty of things to do and we stock brochures in the hotel for all the island’s attractions and we would be delighted to help you find the ones that suit you most
